Start Up The Funny Factory

by admin

Ok, it’s the tenth anniversary of Dragon*ConTV. Time to bring the funny.

It’s The Year of the Dragon according to some calendar we like better than the Mayans. A twelve year repeating cycle makes a lot more sense to computer programmers than this stone tablet predecessor to Y2K. But The Year of the Dragon also happens to usher in the ten year anniversary of our comedic experiment in fandom.

Of course we’re making more videos! But we want your help as well. Some of our producers have real jobs (and the rest are looking for one) so they can’t spend every waking moment making videos (some of us also need sleep). Check out the Dragon*ConTV Submission Guidelines and see if you want to contribute to the funny factory in 2012.

Stay funny my friends.

Digital Sadness

by admin

Due to a combination of business travel and illness, Brian Richardson had to cancel his Digital Atlanta 2011 presentation on Dragon*ConTV. This was originally scheduled for November 9th at Hudson Grille.

If you were planning to attend, we’re sorry you’ll miss out on our twisted look at social media in volunteer projects. Check out the rest of Digital Atlanta and stay tuned to more from Dragon*ConTV as we gear up for our tenth anniversary in 2012.

Dear @Blastr: Thanks for nothing

by admin

The folks at Blastr, the SyFy news site, recently posted an article explaining that zombies aren’t eating kosher.

@blastr: If you’re a zombie hoping to keep kosher … you’re out of luck! http://t.co/8JaM1ULZ

Fun, fantastic, great … Except we already did this. Last year. Let’s roll the videotape. [YouTube]

While we appreciate Blastr taking the time to do hard hitting SciFi journalism, we would appreciate a little more credit for our work.

Home from the Big Show

by admin

We’re home and mostly unpacked from Dragon*Con 2011. It was a great show and we hope our fans enjoyed the new videos. We made a lot of new friends, drank a few strange potions and even managed to get a few hours sleep each night.

New videos from 2011 will be posted this month. There’s everything from Angry Nerds and Dating Game of Thrones to our bumpers and the continuing adventures of Bob & Carl. Lots of new videos to enjoy. We might even have videos of some famous guest-type people admitting to their appreciation of Dragon*ConTV (shocking, I know).

Thanks again for all the fan love … and you can stop complaining about a lack of signal in the Marriott now (yes, we know, we’re working on a solution for 2012).

May The Farce Be With You (dave.fm)

by admin

Atlanta radio station 92.9FM (dave.fm) just published an extensive article on Dragon*ConTV. Brian Richardson sat down with Liz Bradley and told the sordid tale of our history. There’s links to videos, behind the scenes photos and some really detailed info on the folks behind the funny.

Parsec Awards Finalist - 2011

Parsec Awards Finalist - 2011

Once again, Dragon*ConTV is nominated for “Best Speculative Fiction Comedy/Parody Podcast” in the Parsec Awards. We hope to crush our opposition in a tasteful manner, since we can’t afford to get bodily fluids on our rental tuxedos (the cleaning deposit is pretty expensive and we have no budget).

The awards ceremony will be held at Dragon*Con 2011 – Saturday, Sept. 3, 4:30pm in the Hyatt Regency V Ballroom. Come for the sweet taste of victory, stay for the agonizing SPAM-like taste of defeat.

Puppet Progress Report

by admin

We you know you can’t wait for us to get done with Dragon*ConTV 2011 … and we can’t wait either … but we’re not done yet! We are making progress, as evidenced by this odd outtake video involving puppets.

Why puppets? Stay tuned to Dragon*ConTV to find out :)

Brian is in … Imperial Trouble

by admin

Brian Richardson of Dragon*ConTV makes an appearance on the Imperial Trouble podcast. However, we spend most of the time talking about stuff that isn’t Dragon*Con or Dragon*ConTV (shocking, I know). Download Episode 29 of Imperial Trouble to join in the fun (note: contains some NSFW language). [imperialtrouble.com]

Elves, Linguists and Homeless Klingons

by admin

The Register, a British website more commonly associated with computer industry news, published a great article on ‘conlangs’ including Klingon and Elvish. Our homeless Klingon makes a guest appearance in Caleb Cox’s article.

In her book The land of Invented Languages (highly recommended), Akira Okrent tracks down the conlangs that have, in most cases, faded into oblivion. With some pretty wacky ones out there from John Wilkins’ Analytical Language to James Cook Brown’s Loglan, it’s clear why few take off in the first place, even though most were created with respectable goals in mind.

Homeless Klingon + FARK = EPIC WIN!

by admin

The folks at FARK.com finally found Amar, our Internet-famous homeless Klingon, and put him into a Photoshop forum. FARK can be a little unruly sometimes, so young eyes may need to be averted, but there’s some great content here. Click here to enjoy the madness.

I’m on a Blog! (Houston Press Interview)

by admin

I’m on a Blimp” makes it all the way to Houston, thanks to Jef and the Houston Press “Rocks Off” blog

So as long as we’re transporting modern improvements into the past, why not take The Lonely Island’s acclaimed “I’m on a Boat!” and set it on an airship amidst satin coats and corsets? Should we throw Boba Fett into the video as well? Honestly, we can’t see any reason not to. That’s just what Dragon*ConTV did.

Jef does a short interview with Brian Richardson from Dragon*ConTV about the video and our thoughts on steampunk. Enjoy!

The Post-Con Blues

by admin

Wow, is it Tuesday already. It’s so hard to believe Dragon*Con 2010 is over … except when I look at all of these kilts that need to be laundered.

We here at Dragon*ConTV had a fantastic time entertaining (or trying to entertain) the fans this year. We’ve had a massive amount of feedback on this year’s content. Thanks for all of the kind words, it’s encouraging to know that we can be fairly funny when we put our minds to it.

To help you get over the post-con blues, we will be posting the rest of the DCTV 2010 content. This includes all of the “Bob and Carl: SciFi Janitors” videos, the “adult swim style” bumpers, the new “I’m on a Blimp” music video, an epic introduction for the Masquerade and our usual pile of fake movie trailers and slightly unreasonable commercial parodies.

Make a lot of free time, because Dragon*ConTV produced over an hour of new material in 2010. It’s coming your way on this website, our Twitter feed (@dragoncontv), Facebook, YouTube and iTunes.

And yes, we’re already planning for DCTV 2011 … once we get some sleep.

Nerd Alert! I made some changes to the backend of the Dragon*ConTV website.

Hey, why are you giggling? Oh, I did say “backend” … yeah Beavis, that’s hilarious. Can I continue? Thanks …
