Technical Formatting Guidelines

Much like the submission guidelines, the technical formatting guidelines depend on the type of video you are submitting to Dragon*ConTV

Technical Formatting Guidelines for Fan Films and Music Videos

These are the videos that run on the hotel channels during the convention, so they need to be higher quality that what most people find acceptable for the web.

  • Video Resolution: at least 640×480 for fullscreen (4:3), or 640×360 for widescreen (16:9)
  • File Format: DiVX AVI (preferred), MPEG-2, Quicktime DV or DV AVI (Microsoft Windows Media)

Technical Formatting Guidelines for Dragon*ConTV Contributions

These are the clips that we run between convention events and on the hotel channels. We’re not concerned about the format of the clip submitted for review (as long as it plays), but the final version is only submitted in one format … DV.

In 2008, Dragon*ConTV is starting to convert to widescreen videos, but we will accept submissions in widescreen (16:9) or fullscreen (4:3) formats. The fine folks at Dragon*ConTV will recompress the DV file for various formats used at the convention or on the website.

In 2009 we are shooting more content in HDV, but please contact us before submitting HDV format videos. There are some file format incompatibilities between video editing programs & platforms that we want to sort out.
